I had a cat once. A big Tom. He was one each mean sum-a-beetch. I'm giving that damn cat a more than minor role in my book. He might even get the bulk of a chapter.

Erik, if your cat is a killer, responsible for the death or maiming of a villain in your book, that could be good. Sounds right for the personality!
