That’s how many times the new Fall Issue of Spinetingler was downloaded on Friday.

As of Saturday night, it had been downloaded 4337 times.**

That’s our highest ever first-day download rate, I think. Certainly it’s impressive to be at that point into a weekend. I don’t know about you, but here, if the weather’s decent in September everyone is gone. Out and about, enjoying the pre-boots and winter coats warmth.

Of course, that wouldn’t literally be here. Mother Nature descended on us with a vengeance.

Anyway, the point is, the numbers have really helped after the hell this issue turned out to be on the production end. Every time we have a big argument and discuss shutting Spinetingler down, something happens to help us put it in perspective.

I can see I’m officially at my limit, though. Something’s going to have to give in my schedule. But I’m not going to think about that right now. I’m going to go read a manuscript.

Check out Stinkin’ Stan, the new flash from Patrick Sean Bagley. Reading a great piece of flash feels a bit like a morning devotional. Except I don’t feel spiritual and enlightened. Made me smile though. ☺

** We’d like to thank The Rap Sheet and Linda L. Richards. Stephen Allan for sharing the story behind his story. Anne Frasier. Bill Crider. JT Ellison and Bill Cameron. All of you helped spread the word. I was looking at the referrals and was amazed at the volume we got from a place called singing fish (and for the life of me, I can’t figure out how) and the Oxford Bar – again, no clue where those came from. And after my blog, Linda’s, The Rap Sheet and Miss Snark are our top referrers. No doubt I’ve missed more than a few links, and my thanks to those people as well.

We are flattered and thankful for the support of these people, all of whom are highly respected in this industry. I raise my glass of H2O to you. ** And Flood, and Angie...

Patti - thanks for contributing. Really, a fantastic issue. Stories from superb writers, such as yourself, just keep raising the bar...

You write crime fiction and mysteries? I was looking at some of the links on your sidebar. You might try WCP with some submissions. They have a magazine and publish eBooks (some print).

Thanks Zinnia - Wild Child Press I assume you mean? They also publish my friend SW Vaughn.

My books are signed with my own publisher, but I will bear WCP in mind for future short stories.

Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks Amra, and I'm glad you find the stories prompt that creative spark. I'm glad we are rigid about genre - it does make them more interesting. As a reader, you never know. As a crime fiction author, I'm always surprised when nobody dies. :)

Kevin got home from his course and fell asleep on the couch. And I had to wake him up so he could have a shower before we leave for the city.

Go Flames Go! See, I'm practicing already.

Sandra,

The spammers have found your blog.

Thanks for plugging "Stinkin' Stan." I'm glad you liked it, even though I didn't quite accomplish what I'd set out to do. I might have to revise and expand it.

I read some of the latest Spinetingler (the stories by Steve Allan, Patricia Abbott and JT Ellison) at work the other day, but I have a hard time downloading it with my slow connection at home. All three stories were excellent.

I'm working on something I might submit to Spinetingler in a few weeks.

Aargh! Spintingler comes out the weekend I'm away from my computer!

Seriously though, thankyou Sandra, not just for publishing one of my stories to the great world out there (and that makes you one of an elite few), not just for plugging the DevilDog too (even if I really wasn't ready for that - my own fault), but for making Spinetingler in the first place. It's consistently enjoyable and inspirational, and (apart from a small lapse when it let something by a little-known Wales-based author through) of the highest quality. 4337 downloads in a weekend - you deserve at least that.

Hey Sandra: thanks for the hat tip. What I didn't mention (I should have, but I couldn't then, 'cause I hadn't read much of it at that point) was that it's a terrific issue. Your best yet, I think.

Patrick, I know. Jerks.

Anne, yeah, great numbers! Thanks to everyone - and Linda, thanks for the nice words on the issue. Honestly, when it gets to this point, I never want to see it again!

Congrats on the current issue, Sandra. It's a biggun. Can't wait to get off my arse and read it.

Although I'd probably have to get ON my arse to do so.

Sandra Ruttan said...

Thanks Daniel. Yeah, you likely do have to get on your butt. Unless you can read while walking or biking.
