Tasteless

Despite some stiff competition I do believe the fact that in a school the grade 6 and grade 7 students were asked to play roles from Monday's massacre in which a mentally ill student gunned down 32 students and teachers at the U.S. college before killing himself gets the prize for stupid move of the week.

Probably the month.

"This was a completely inappropriate lesson for this particular group of children," the principal said Friday.

You think?

Well, it's not often that I'm speechless, but...

And these are the people we trust with our children?

Norby, I think Patrick said it best. ;)

Patti, yeah. Exactly. You can see why I had to put that up here. It was a way of processing my shock. I do hope this 'teacher' is disciplined. I have no issue with children that age discussing their feelings about such events - they probably should be encouraged to do so - but to enact the shooting? What was this woman thinking?

I sometimes feel that my life is rather bizarre and that I'm becoming out of touch with the 'real world,' but I find it hard to believe that anyone would be foolish enough to do this - but there it is in black and white and it's not April Fool's day.
Cheers

mcewen, first, thanks for your comments this week. I haven't been around as much as usual, but I have noticed.

And yes, there it is, in black and white. Really, there aren't words. I can only hope some action will be taken with this teacher.

Hard to tell whether she's naively misguided or insanely stupid. Either way, I doubt she'll make that mistake again.

I wonder if this lesson was led by the same teacher who made the news a month or so back for having young students read aloud explicit discussions about masturbation and other sexual topics. He said he had been given one set of lessons for adults and one for children and had chosen the wrong set.

...and they call themselves teachers!!!

Spyscribbler, one hopes!

Peter, OMG. What a mistake to make.

Bonnie, the question is, what do they think they're teaching?

I take some comfort in knowing even on days when I feel I am not very smart- news like this reminds me that I am still WAAAAAAY ahead of the curve.

Every time I stop by your blog and see this post I feel sick. I think it was reading about the sobbing South Korean girl that tore it beyond repair. The cruelty of thoughtlessness breaks my heart. And makes me want to physically kick this teacher's ass.
