I think what's made it hard is knowing Lehane to be such a talented writer, and hearing bits and pieces from fans of the series that fill in the gaps.

Unfortunately, the movie had a responsibility to tell the story completely itself, and didn't. But there's a lot to like in terms of the atmosphere, in terms of the flavour of the setting. The performance Amy Ryan gives is phenomenal.

Like I said, I really wanted it to be better than it was.Sandra Ruttanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06109584805469336742noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18499463.post-78159941586492546512007-10-22T06:31:00.000-04:002007-10-22T06:31:00.000-04:00Wow .. you really did pile on the negative early f...Wow .. you really did pile on the negative early for a movie that earns a B/B+! ... I'll definitely take those thoughts into consideration when I finally get to see this, probably on Thursday .. and it certainly will be great to see Omar againReel Fanatichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09727636643227938924noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18499463.post-243646143728983182007-10-21T09:14:00.000-04:002007-10-21T09:14:00.000-04:00"Omar" also played a cop in the greatest music vid..."Omar" also played a cop in the greatest music video since Michael Jackson's Thriller -- Trapped in the Closet by R Kelley.Brian Lindenmuthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02519203797661128049noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18499463.post-8090437206080074472007-10-21T00:25:00.000-04:002007-10-21T00:25:00.000-04:00RAC, yes, unfortunately. I have a feeling fans of the books with either LOVE the movie... or LOATHE it.

Patti, I am looking forward to reading the series. I have high hopes for it being one of those brilliant reads that just doesn't translate well onscreen.Sandra Ruttanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06109584805469336742noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18499463.post-8742019056073930242007-10-20T20:59:00.000-04:002007-10-20T20:59:00.000-04:00Yeah, I liked this a lot but Angie was the gaping ...Yeah, I liked this a lot but Angie was the gaping hole at its center and I thought Ed Harris was miscast. He seemed way too smart and from the wrong mileu. But as for Angie, they gave her nothing to do and she did nothing. Have to read the book and see if this is Lehane's Angie or Afleck's. Anyway, on the whole a B.pattinase (abbott)https://www.blogger.com/profile/02916037185235335846noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18499463.post-16308606252656666182007-10-20T17:20:00.000-04:002007-10-20T17:20:00.000-04:00No hint of Angie's story is not good, I agree, Ms....No hint of Angie's story is not good, I agree, Ms. S. I think that's something an audience can't just intuitively guess about. This may be a mistake in how they tried to tell the movie, imo anyway. You can address that properly in a book, but there was a person I know who said they worried about this Patrick & Angie book being made a movie first, without their history explained, and I think they were dead on.Sandra Ruttanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06109584805469336742noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18499463.post-3093316442506005142007-10-20T11:31:00.000-04:002007-10-20T11:31:00.000-04:00I love this series by Lahane, partly because of tw...I love this series by Lahane, partly because of two things you mentioned. Patrick mades stupid decisions sometimes. I like that. And two, Angie is a freakin mystery. There's an old boyfriend, or husband, who's abusive, but we never get the full story. The books are told from Patrick's POV and he can only know what Angie shares. I can't wait to see the movie.Jack Getzehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09516237388744739669noreply@blogger.com
